Vabs’ Weekend Wisdom: Addicted…

Hi my name is Brian Vabulas and I’m an addict.  No, not to drugs or alcohol, but to a mobile word game called “Words with Friends”.  (iTunes / Andriod) I know that this is not as serious as other addictions, but nonetheless I can’t help my love for it.

It’s like Scrabble, and you can play whomever you want – online.  I play with Friends – hence the name.  Each word is scored.   The best part is that you can play when you have time – if you have a busy Saturday – no moves need to be made.  If you have a lazy Saturday, make a move as quickly as you and your friends can play.  You may just have to make time, to make your moves and beat your friends.

Who doesn’t like healthy competition at your leisure.   I love this game.  I play it before work, I play it at lunch, I play it on the way home, I play it during dinner, I play it when I’m sleeping.  When I walk around I see the game board the way Neo sees the Matrix.  I may have to get help soon….

Hey if you want to play just let me know, I’m game.

Vabs’ Weekend Wisdom: Too Organic?

How organic is too organic?  Many of my family and friends strongly subscribe to the philosophy that organic food is better for you and will help you live forever.  I think that’s wonderful, but if you’ve seen the Green Mile, you may want to rethink that philosophy (that’s another post for another day).  I stumbled upon this article last week (Baby Gaga) and it seems we are pushing the limits… Breast Milk Ice Cream?

Really?

That sounds like a bit too much for me…  This is coming from someone who loves to eat pretty much anything.   I think there is too much of a good thing in this land.  I think it’s time to say, we have taken “Organic” a bit too far?

Vabs’ Weekend Wisdom: Ranch Dressing

I admit it, I love food.  Yes, it’s true!  One thing that I love to put on multiple types of food is Ranch Dressing.  Yep, I said it, Ranch Dressing, and I’m sorry Kraft’ you just don’t cut it… When I say Ranch Dressing I mean Hidden Valley Ranch.  I’ll even accept the Hidden Valley Ranch Light, but not the fat free version – that’s where I draw my line – we all have standards.

Let me tell you the ways you can use Ranch Dressing on/over the following:

  • Salad (obviously – it’s intended use)
  • Chicken Wings (replacement for Blu Cheese)
  • Chicken Fingers (mix it with BBQ Sauce for extra zing)
  • Steak (as a replacement for a Hollandaise sauce)
  • Burger
  • Falafel
  • Pizza
  • Cereal
  • Over a wound for healing
  • Helps with weight loss
  • Helps regrow hair
  • Restore sight

Let me know how you feel about Ranch (below).  How can you not love Ranch Dressing?  It will enhance your life…

Vabs has apologized, but is it enough?

Vabs’ Weekend Wisdom: Mother Nature

Here’s a bit of wisdom that I picked up this week during the Chicago Blizzard of 2011.

( E. Jason Wambsgans, Chicago Tribune / February 2, 2011 )

DO NOT Challenge Mother Nature when snow is involved! (see blizzard challenge)  I was brash and young enough that the weathermen predict and control the weather.  I want to let you all know that this is not the case.  I believe it to be a higher power – Mother Nature.  When you challenge her to a duel you better be ready to reap the consequences.  I did and lost.

This is my formal apology to the city of Chicago for my brash statements last week.  I am sorry for causing the Chicago blizzard of 2011 the third worst blizzard in Chicago History.  I promise next time I will choose my words carefully.

I hope everyone in the Chicago and Chicagoland area has it in their heart to forgive me.
